After meeting on a dating site about three years ago, Holly Murphy of LeRoy, and Dave Giannavola of Rochester, quickly became close friends and started going to flea markets together on date night.

“Her and I did a lot of flea markets when we were dating, estate sales. I’m a collector from way back, I used to sell vintage toys and still do. My brother was in the antique business, so I became familiar with this line of work about 30 years ago,” says Giannavola

As their friendship started to grow, and Murphy’s family really enjoyed Giannavola company when he would come over, the pair started to do estate sales together. They started selling from a storage unit in Stafford.

“It’s something he got me into, now we have no life because this is all we do, but we enjoy it, you gotta enjoy what you do. I have a full time day job too and they are very supportive of me starting my own business,” says Murphy.

On Friday, “Attic to Basement” Retail Outlet opened its doors in the former Harvester 56 Theatre space.

Murphy says she learned about the space at 56 Harvester after meeting Bob Trombley from Vintage, a gift/thrift and antique shop located next door to “Attic to Basement”, at an estate sale.

“Pretty much all we had to do was paint. It was part of the theatre, so it was dark black, red and purple, we picked out some neutral colors and painted it up and filled it up,” says Murphy.

Murphy says the pair have so much stuff from going to estate sales and buying storage units that they had to rent some storage space next to the store.

“It’s a little bit of everything,” says Murphy.

“We have stuff from the 1800’s to current, vintage toys, collectables, modern pottery, furniture, art work, tools, and jewelry. This is one those stores that if you don’t see it, ask, cause we probably have it,” says Giannavola.

Murphy says she thinks the Harvester is a cool building with a lot of promise.

“Its got the hipster vibe. I can see what they are trying to do. If the Mancusos do what is envisioned for this building and it comes true, its gonna be a really happening place.”

“Attic to Basement” Retail Outlet, located at 56 Harvester avenue in Batavia, NY, will be open Friday and Saturday’s from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. and Sunday from 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m., and during the week you can reach Holly at 585-301-8346 and Dave at 585-755-4967.

An “Attic to Basement” Facebook page is in the works and should be up and running in the next week or so.

Holly and Dave can also assist customers who are looking to have an estate sale and clean outs.
