Ten fire companies responded to a 3 alarm barn fire at 7476 Starowitz road on Thursday night.
Crews received a call of a barn fire with flames showing from an equipment/shop type barn in the rear of the property about 10:00p.m. Elba Fire Chief Mike Heale says first responders on scene experienced a lot of explosions and heavy fire.
Heale says crews battled the fire in a defensive mode, protecting the other exposures nearby. He says the wind actually worked to their advantage during the blaze, blowing the heavy flames to the north, away from any of the nearby structures.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The barn was a total loss.
