WYOMING COUNTY/Names released in double fatal accident in Gainesville

“The driver of 2001 Volkswagen has been identified as Jacquelin Simpson, age 83, of the Village of Perry. The passenger was Jessie Button, age 82, of the Village of Perry.

The driver of the 2010 Ford Taurus was Amy Szulewski, age 45, of Portage, NY. She was treated and released from WCCHS.

The crash is being investigated by Deputy Nick Wright in coordination with the Crash Management Team and is continuing.”

“On March 9, 2021, the Communication Division of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls of a two car crash in front of the Wyoming County Highway Department at 4328 Route 19 in the Town of Gainesville. The Wyoming County Vaccination Clinic was in operation at the Highway Department and EMTs from the clinic immediately responded to render aid. The Wyoming County Emergency Services Office, Gainesville Fire and Ambulance, Silver Springs Fire and Ambulance and Monroe Ambulance all responded. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Michael Smith.

Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and its Crash Management Team are investigating the crash. The investigation is ongoing, but witness accounts and crash data indicate the following:

A single occupant 2010 Ford Taurus was southbound on Route 19 when 2001 Volkswagen failed to yield and pulled out of the Highway Department lot making a left (north) turn onto Route 19. It was a “T-bone” type collision. The occupants of the Volkswagen were both killed in the crash and had just attended the Vaccination Clinic. The occupant of the Ford Taurus was transported by Silver Springs Ambulance and taken to the Wyoming County Community Health System for minor injuries.

Names are not being released pending family notifications. The investigation is continuing, but charges are not likely. The New York State Police also assisted at the scene.”
