BATAVIA/Minor water and smoke damage inside Vine street home after rear of the house catches fire

On Wednesday, March 10th at 1:38 p.m., the City of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a

grass fire that was extending to the house located at 30 Vine Street. CBFD engine 11 reported there was

smoke showing as they left the station and requested a recall of two off duty CBFD crews.

CBFD Engine 11 and Ladder 15 arrived on scene less than 4 minutes later to find a 2 ½-story wood

frame home with fire showing on the exterior rear of the house.

The fire was quickly knocked down and declared under control within 12 minutes.

Fire damage was contained to the outside of the home, with the interior sustaining minor water

and smoke damage. The house, located at 32 Vine Street, sustained minor heat damage to the siding.

City of Batavia Fire Department investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature.

City of Batavia Fire Department was assisted by the City of Batavia Police Department, City of

Batavia Code Enforcement and the Genesee County 911 Center.
