WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Pair charged in Sheldon traffic stop

Michael A. Sweet, 35, of Varysburg and Rachel A. Baehr, 34, of Batavia, were arrested following a traffic stop on Route 98 in the Town of Sheldon on March 11, 2021. Sweet was pulled over after being observed driving a 2004 Subaru Forrester and was known to law enforcement to have a suspended driver’s license.

Following the traffic stop, a metal cylinder with 2.19 grams of methamphetamine was recovered in the front seat of the vehicle. Multiple pieces of methamphetamine paraphernalia were also seized. Through investigation, it was found that the passenger, Rachel A. Baehr, had another bag and a glass vial containing 1.97 grams of methamphetamine, both concealed on her person. Baehr turned the items over to deputies while on scene. Sweet and Baehr were both transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Sweet is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd degree, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd, unlicensed operation, and visibility distorted by broken glass.

Baehr is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd degree.

Both were issued appearance tickets to answer the charges in the Town of Sheldon Court on March 29, 2021. They were both processed and then released.

On February 27, 2021, about 7:03p.m, deputies responded to the Dollar General in Varysburg on Rt. 20A, for the report of a male lying inside his vehicle unresponsive and the driver’s door was wide open. Several attempts were made by the caller to wake the male, but he was still unresponsive.

Deputies arrived on scene and observed a white 2013 Ford Focus backed up to the store in the side parking lot and the driver’s door was open. A male, later identified as Jarod R. Cameron, 28 , of Laurens, NY, was observed lying in the driver’s seat with the engine running. Several attempts were made by deputies to wake Cameron up. He eventually did wake up. Several items of drug paraphernalia were observed in plain view inside the vehicle and deputies on scene believed Cameron may have been under the influence of drugs. A roadside investigation was conducted.

Following field sobriety testing, Cameron was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle yielded several controlled substances (suspected cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, LSD, concentrated cannabis wax), along with several other items consistent with drug sales. Cameron was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where he submitted to a drug influence evaluation conducted by a certified Drug Recognition Expert. Following the evaluation, it was the DRE’s expert opinion that Cameron was under the influence of multiple different drugs and could not operate a motor vehicle safely.

Cameron was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd with intent to sell, 2 counts , criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th (Cocaine), 3 counts, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, DWAI/drugs and DWAI/Combination of Drugs.

Cameron was arraigned in the Town of Warsaw Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the Wyoming County Court at a later date.

On February 9, 2021, deputies received the report of a possible violation of an order of protection in the Town of Java. Following an investigation, it was discovered that Ronnie J. Sumeriski II, 38, of Batavia, allegedly violated a complete stay away order of protection that was issued on December 3,, 2020 by Judge Mohun of the Wyoming County Court, by attempting to hack into the protected parties social media account and communicating via text message.

Sumeriski was previously arrested on December 3rd, 2020, for menacing in the 3rd degree and aggravated harassment in the 2nd degree following a domestic incident. An arrest warrant was issued for Sumeriski’s arrest and on March 10, 2021, Sumeriski was arrested in Genesee County following a traffic stop. He was later turned over to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.

Sumeriski is charged with criminal contempt in the 2nd degree and was arraigned in front of Judge McCormick of Java Town Court. Following arraignment, Sumeriski was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Java Town Court at a later date.
