ORLEANS COUNTY/Pilot not injured in emergency landing after running out of fuel near the Pine Hill Airport in Barre

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office is Investigating an aircraft emergency landing in a corn field off Bragg Schoolhouse road in the Town of Barre on Sunday afternoon.

The Buffalo Niagara International Airport Control Tower contacted the Orleans County Sheriff’s 911 Center and reported a plane down approximately 2 miles east of the Pine Hill Airport. The Barre Fire Department and Sheriff’s Deputies located the 1962 Cessna, 182F single prop and the pilot, Eloy Vague-Spaude, of Rochester, approximately  1500 feet off the road in a corn field.

The pilot indicated that he had allowed two skydivers to jump and was circling to return to the Pine Hill Airport, when he ran out of fuel and made the emergency landing. The pilot was not injured and the plane was not damaged. A crew from the Pine Hill Airport fueled the aircraft and towed it out to Bragg-Schoolhouse road. The pilot was able to restart the plane and take off on the roadway.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
