Barn Quilt display set to showcase art form and welcome visitors

Press release

The Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism office is calling on barn quilt square artists, crafters, and enthusiasts to share your favorite barn quilt squares with the community for an upcoming public art display this summer. The Wyoming County Barn Quilt art installation plans to showcase the unique artistry, heritage, and history of barn quilt squares and their prominence throughout Wyoming County.

“Wyoming County’s Barn Quilt Trail has become a popular attraction and a great way to showcase both the art-form itself and the heritage of agriculture in the County,” said Chamber President Scott Gardner. “This barn quilt installation will be a focused way to display the squares and invite visitors to view a selection of barn quilts in a single location, learn more, and then plan a visit to view the many around the county.”

The public barn quilt display will include approximately 12-15 barn quilt squares of varied sizes. The Chamber is asking for temporarily donated barn quilt squares in sizes ranging between 2 ft. by 2 ft. up to 4 ft. by 4 ft. Artists and individuals are encouraged to either make a unique square for display or be willing to share an existing square for the display. In addition to the barn quilts on display, a placard with share the name of the quilt, artist, and the quilt square meaning if known.

Finished quilt squares are needed by June 1, 2021. The barn quilt squares will be on display between mid-June thru mid-July and will be featured during Warsaw’s Valley Fest. Squares will be returned to the owners at the end of July 2021. For information or to reserve a spot, please call the Chamber at 585-786-0307 or send an email to info@wycochamber.org.

The Wyoming County Barn Quilt installation will be located in the Village of Warsaw on Route 20A to greet visitors as they pass through this summer to their destinations, and invites them to stop to appreciate the art form and pick up a brochure to learn more about the barn quilts that are located throughout Wyoming County.

The Wyoming County Barn Quilt Trail, organized in 2016, has been a popular attraction for local residents and people visiting the area. It has been a great way to showcase the agricultural industry and the history, art form of barn quilt squares and the variety of their design. There are now over 80 barn quilts located on the Wyoming County Barn Quilt Trail and the list continues to grow.
