WYOMING COUNTY/Two cats perish in house fire in Bennington

One adult, one child and the family dog were able to escape their burning home uninjured late Sunday evening in the Town of Bennington.

Nine fire companies responded to 368 Rt. 77 at 10:54p.m. for a working house fire.

Two cats perished in the blaze.

The house and the garage are a total loss, according to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services. A neighboring home also sustained exterior damage during the fire.

The home is owned by Bruce Leroy. Mike Leroy and a daughter resided at the home. The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire crews from Bennington, Attica, Cowlesville, Strykersville, Harris Corners, North Java, Alexander, Corfu and the City of Batavia were on scene about 5 hours. No injuries reported.

Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s, Red Cross and NYSEG.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
