WYOMING COUNTY/Shorting electrical extension cord causes kitchen fire in the Town of Eagle

An electrical extension cord that shorted out caused $25,000 in damages in a kitchen fire at a Town of Eagle home on Tuesday afternoon.

Six fire companies responded to 3414 School street at 3:25p.m. and were on scene about 2.5 hours.

The home, owned by Jeff and Julie Newville, sustained severe fire damage in the kitchen area. The rest of the home suffered severe smoke damage and the family is being assisted by the Red Cross.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Fire crews from Bliss, Castile, Gainesville, North Java, Arcade and Pike responded to the scene. Also assisting at the scene, Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department and the Red Cross.
