MAY 13, 2021

On May13th, 2021, at 3:18 pm, the Orleans County Sheriff’s 911 Communication Center received a report of a man trapped under an overturned tractor at 13945 Ridge Road in the Town of Gaines.

Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies, Albion Fire Department and C.O.V.A. Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Deputies and emergency personnel discovered George W. Manning, age 72, deceased, lying next to an overturned Ford 8N tractor.

The victim’s son, George the III, reported that he discovered his father pinned under a tractor and unresponsive. George the III summoned the neighbors to call 911 and assist him. George the III, with assistance of a husband and wife team from next door, were able to lift the machine enough to pull the victim out from under the tractor. George the III began CPR to no avail.

Based on our investigation, it appears that the victim was attempting to use the tractor to pull out a small tree near the house with a chain when it flipped over pinning him beneath. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Orleans County Chief Coroner Scott Schmidt.

The victim was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office. The NYSP also assisted at the scene.

Sheriff Christopher M. Bourke
