WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Traffic stop leads to a felony weapons charge for a California man

A traffic complaint on May 12, 2021 led to the arrest of Meng Li, age 39, of San Gabriel, California. Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a tractor trailer that was driving westbound on East Buffalo Street in the Village of Warsaw which is prohibited.

Deputies intercepted the semi-trailer on West Buffalo Street and followed it to Route 20A at Blackhouse Road where a traffic stop was conducted in a safe location. Meng Li, a co-driver inside the vehicle, was found in possession of a Glock 9MM handgun with two magazines loaded with 10 rounds of 9MM ammunition each.

Meng Li was taken into custody, and the driver of the tractor trailer was issued traffic tickets and then released from the scene. Meng Li was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with one class C violent felony offense of criminal possession of a weapon 2nd. He was arraigned virtually in front of Judge Kibler of Wyoming County Court. Meng Li is scheduled to appear in the Town of Warsaw Court on June 21, 2021. He was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $2,500.00 cash bail, $5,000.00 bond, or $5,000.00 partially secured bond.

The Warsaw Police Department and Valley Sales & Service assisted at the scene.

Stefan T. Paquette, 41, of Hershey, PA, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 20A in the Town of Perry on May 14, 2021. Paquette was stopped for following too closely, and Paquette and his passenger were found to be smoking marijuana inside the vehicle.

Paquette was asked to perform field sobriety tests, and after performing poorly, he was arrested for DWAI/ drugs. Paquette was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where a Drug Recognition Expert determined he was impaired by cannabis and was unable to operate a vehicle safely.

Paquette is charged with DWAI/drugs, following too closely, and consumption of cannabis in a motor vehicle. Paquette’s passenger, Stacey L. Unangst, 40, of Columbia, PA, was also cited for consumption of cannabis in a motor vehicle.

Paquette was issued an appearance ticket and released after processing. Both Paquette and Unangst are scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Perry Court on May 26, 2021.

Anthony Bell Jr., 44 of Buffalo, NY was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, and speeding in a zone following a traffic stop for speeding on Route 20A in the Town of Sheldon on May 13, 2021.

A license records check showed Bell to have a suspended driver’s license in the State of New York for failure to pay child support.

Bell was processed roadside and released to a licensed driver. Bell is to appear in Sheldon Town Court at a later date to answer to the charges.
