Jan Smith started researching wedding venues last October, after her son’s wedding venue cancelled on him 8 days before his August wedding due to COVID.

“They said they would not hold it, we already paid for the caterer, we paid for the DJ, the rental service. We scrambled, but within a couple of hours we had a friend that let us hold the wedding at their place,” says Smith.

“It really made me find out that there wasn’t a lot of options.”

Smith says her grandfather, Warren Wood, owned 400-500 acres of land on Creek road, and over the years he sold off some property as no one was farming anymore, and the steel barn was still on the property and being used for storage.

A planner by trade, Smith started looking into if she and her husband Craig could make it cost effective for everyone.

In February, they started working on the barn, redoing the doors and building out the steel walls.

“I worked out here until 10-11pm each night, we hired some good contractors to help.”

Smith does the whole set up for everyone, the tables, the chairs, napkins, getting the barn ready. The customer can choose their own caterer. Food truck weddings are also an option at WoodSmith.

“We can actually have food trucks here, we have a rest room trailer, its great, we try to let them have the wedding that they want. I want them to have the unique experience of making it all their own.”

There is also a rainy day plan. The doors of the barn can close and the arbor from the pond area can be moved inside.

“Personally, I’m making this so people can have their own unique wedding. If they want a carriage to bring them to their arbor, I want them to be able to do that. Other venues don’t let people do what they want, and they can be very limited.”
