GENESEE COUNTY/Lockport teen drowns in creek at Indian Falls

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning in the Tonawanda Creek at Indian Falls in the Town of Pembroke. At about 3:46pm, the Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received a call of a subject that had jumped into the water and had not resurfaced.

Several bystanders jumped into the water in an effort to locate the individual, but were unsuccessful.

The Swift Water Rescue Team from the City of Batavia Fire Department and the Dive Team from the Alden Fire Department eventually located the subject’s body at about 5:51pm.

The victim, Jacob C. Minnick, 18, of Lockport, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Coroner Lang.

The Pembroke and Indian Falls Fire Departments, Genesee County Office of Emergency Management and Mercy EMS were on scene, the Corfu Fire Department also assisted.
