GENESEE COUNTY/Pembroke Class of ’79 raising funds to repair sign in front of high school

Ed Gutowski is spearheading a project to renovate the old message sign in front of the Pembroke High School on Rt. 77. It was originally constructed as a memorial to several students who were killed in two separate vehicle crashes.

It has gone into disrepair over the years, and is in need of some attention and updating.

There is a Memorial plaque on the sign’s front for three students killed along with their driver’s education teacher in 1987 and two other students killed in a separate crash in the mid 70s

Gutowski, who is a member of the class of ’79, has started a GoFundMe page to raise the money needed to have LED panels installed in the original sign. The GoFundMe page is looking to raise $25,000

“Students have raised some money, but still have a long way to go,” says Gutowski.

Once the group raises enough money, it will be donated either to the Board of Education or the district. That will be determined.
