GENESEE COUNTY/ABATE donates $3,000 to the DAV(Disabled American Veteran’s charity)

Members of Genesee County ABATE raised $3,000 for the DAV(Disabled American Veteran’s charity) after participating in their Post to Post Charity Motorcycle Run on June 12th.

According to ABATE President Tim Johnson, the group stopped at five different American Legion Posts in the area who collected donations for the 42 member motorcycle group. Riders also paid $20 per bike to participate in the charity run and 50/50 raffles were held.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Tim Johnson and a few ABATE members along with the American Legion Commander from the Glenn S. Loomis Post 332, met at Stan’s Harley Davidson on West Saile drive to present a $3,000 check to the DAV and Doug Titus, Human Services Coordinator at the VA in Batavia.

Titus says the money raised will go towards a new vehicle that the DAV is hoping to purchase in the near future.

The DAV transports veterans from their home to their VA appointments in Batavia and Buffalo for free. They currently have five vans that service Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming Counties. Titus says they serve about 250 veterans with about eight drivers, but are short on volunteer drivers. Most of their volunteer drivers are retired.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to drive a van for the DAV, they can contact Doug Titus at 585-297-1170.
