GENESEE COUNTY/Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to be cautious of driveway paving/repair scams

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents of persons going door to door offering to pave your driveway and to be cautious of possible scams.

The Sheriff’s Office says that most towns in Genesee County require a permit to solicit door to door. If a contractor comes to your door offering to do work, they need to possess a permit from the town they are operating in. Having a permit means the town has approved the contractor as a legitimate business.

If a blacktop contractor offers to do work at a price that is too good to be true, it probably is and you should be cautious as the scam blacktop contractors tend to be very persistent and will later try to get you to pay more money than what was originally agreed upon.

If you spot any suspicious soliciting or work being done in your area, call local law enforcement to report.
