The report of an ongoing domestic incident in the Village of Silver Springs led to the arrest of one individual on August 25, 2021.
Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Village of Silver Springs for a welfare check of an alleged abused party. Deputies spoke to the victim. Following the investigation, it is alleged that Cory M Goodenow, 27, of Silver Springs, had strangled and instilled fear of physical injury and death in the victim over a period of time.
Deputies removed the victim from the residence and placed the victim in an undisclosed location until Goodenow could be apprehended.
Goodenow was later arrested by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and charged with strangulation in the second degree and coercion in the first degree. When Goodenow was located, he was found to be in the presence of a separate protected party. Goodenow was also charged with aggravated family offence and disobeying an order of protection.
He was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court and is being held in the Wyoming County Jail without bail due to his being on parole and his current felony charge. Goodenow is scheduled for further proceedings in the Wyoming County Court on September 17, 2021, a Parole detainer was filed and a full stay away order of protection was issued to protect the victim.
A Wyoming County Jail inmate is charged with (2) counts of criminal contempt in the second degree.
Michael A. Sweet, 35, of Varysburg, was charged after making phone calls from the jail to a person who had a stay away order of protection issued against him.
Sweet was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Warsaw Court at a later date.
