OAE defeats Avon to claim the Class D Championship at Van Detta Stadium in Batavia on Friday night, 26-21.
OAE started the scoring in the first quarter with MVP Gaige Armbrewster making the score 6-0, the extra point was good. Avon answered with a Thomas Welch TD and the extra point was good to tie the score on the second quarter.
OAE’s then answered back with a 65 yard run by Noah Currier to make the score 13-7, the extra point was good. But with 2 seconds left in the first half, the Braves tie the game up with quarterback Andrew Rowland making it into the endzone .
In the third quarter, the Braves continued their momentum from late second quarter with Chris Thompson breaking free to the two yard line, and the Braves sneak another touchdown in to take the lead 21-14.
In the fourth quarter, Gaige Armbrewster got things going again for the Aggies running one in to make the score 20-21 Avon. The two point conversion was no good and Avon held on to a one point lead until late in the fourth quarter, when Noah Currier caught a high long pass from quarterback Bodie Hyde to the endzone to put the Aggies in the lead for good. 26-21.
The OAE Aggies are Section V Champions after falling just short of the title last season.
