The Orleans County Sheriff Office is investigating an apparent accidental shooting in the Town of Carlton.
On November 21, 2021, at 3:14 pm, the Sheriff’s 911 Communication Center received a report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound on Winding road in Waterport.
Carlton Fire/EMS, Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance and Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and discovered a male with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.
The victim, a 60 year old Hamlin N.Y. resident, was conscious and reported to deputies that he was walking on the pathway to his cottage on Winding road, when his AMT 380 cal. semi-auto handgun accidently dropped on the ground and discharged. The bullet entered the right front side of the victim’s neck and exited the right rear side.
The victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
