WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Florida man found with a loaded gun during a traffic stop

On March 17, 2022, at approximately 6:45p.m., a deputy from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Route 20A in the Town of Warsaw, after observing a violation of the New York State vehicle and traffic law.

The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle identified himself as Charles Hanes, 25, of Ocala, Florida. While conducting a roadside interview with Hanes, the deputy observed multiple indicators consistent with criminal activity and consent was obtained to search the vehicle. During the search, the deputy recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, which Hanes illegally possessed.

Hanes was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree/loaded firearm, a class C felony and no/improper turn signal. He was arraigned in the Town of Warsaw Court and remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash/$10,000 bond/$15,000 partially secured bond.

Hanes is scheduled to return to the Town of Warsaw Court on April 25, 2022, for further proceedings.

Assisting with the arrest were members of the New York State Police.

Matthew D. Wong, 30, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 20A in the Town of Orangeville on March 22, 2022.

Wong was stopped for a traffic infraction at which time he was found in to be in unlawful possession of a 20mg pill of amphetamine, otherwise known as Adderall. Wong was issued an appearance ticket on the charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree and front windshield non-transparent.

Wong was processed at the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and then released with an appearance ticket, he is scheduled to appear on April 6, 2022, in Orangeville Town Court.
