PERRY POLICE REPORT/Attica man facing charges after a suspicious person in a vehicle complaint

PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of an Attica man on several drug charges following an investigation by the Perry Police Department.

On March 23, 2022, at 5:59AM, Officer McKaylee Croll and Officer David Spink responded to Liberty Street in the Village of Perry for a complaint of a suspicious person in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Officer Croll and Officer Spink approached the vehicle and observed the suspect, 32-year-old Ian Prial, sleeping behind the wheel of the vehicle which was running with the keys in the ignition. Upon waking and interviewing Prial, he admitted to Officer Croll that he was driving. Officer Croll discovered Prial’s license to be suspended.

During Officer Croll’s investigation, she observed that Prial was allegedly impaired and suspected drug activity to be present. Officer Croll requested Prial submit to standardized field sobriety tests, to which he complied. Prial did not perform the tests as instructed and was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI).

During a search of Prial’s person, due to his arrest, about 1.5 grams of methamphetamine was identified in addition to multiple pills identified as Alprazolam, amphetamines, and several baggies of drug paraphernalia with a powder residue.

Officer Croll, and Officer Spink then conducted a search of the suspect’s vehicle, resulting in more evidence of methamphetamine use and drug packaging paraphernalia.

Prial was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for a Drug Recognition Evaluation conducted by Sergeant Reagan, which concluded that Prial was allegedly impaired. He was then transported back to Perry Police Department for processing.

Prial was then arrested and charged with:

Vehicle and Traffic Law- 511-1a-Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd
Vehicle and Traffic Law- 11924-Driving W/ Ability Impaired by Drug
Vehicle and Traffic Law- 11924A-Driving W/Ability Impaired by Drug-Combination
(3 Counts of) NY Penal Law 220.03- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th
NY Penal Law 220.50 02-Criminal Use Drug Paraphernalia-2nd package

Per NYS Bail Reform laws, Prial was issued an appearance ticket for the listed charges and is to appear in Perry Village Court on April 12, 2022, at 1:00 PM.
