WNY/Wolcott J. Humphrey III Symposium at GCC is back on track with a theme of “Climate Change & Sustainability”

The 2022 Wolcott J. Humphrey Symposium Committee is back on track after a bit of a hiatus due to the pandemic. After a year of planning under the theme of “Climate Change & Sustainability”, the event attracted 168 people from the GLOW community and the college who came together to listen to Keynote Speaker Peter Boyd at the Richard C. Call Arena at Genesee Community College on Thursday morning.

Jay Gsell, former County Manager in Genesee County served on the Symposium Committee for 2022 and explained the importance of the event and a bit of history on Jay Humphrey who the Symposium is named after. The first Symposium was held in 2003 with Guest Speaker Jim Boeheim, Syracuse University Basketball Coach.

For over twenty years, Peter Boyd, has worked on, led and advised, high-growth organizations on leadership, strategy, time maximization, team alignment and entrepreneurial opportunity. His private-sector experience started with McKinsey & Co. then spanned over ten jobs in twelve years at the Virgin Group, including CEO of Virgin Mobile South Africa. In non-profit and government, he was Launch Director and COO of Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room; served as Chair of The Energy Efficiency Deployment Office for the UK Department of Energy & Climate Change; and led The B Team’s ‘Net-Zero by 2050’ initiative focused on business encouragement for an ambitious Paris Agreement at COP21.

Peter is originally from Edinburgh, Scotland; graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics; and now lives in Westport, Connecticut.
