Eight fire companies spent 5.5 hours extinguishing a brush fire at 3226 Merchant road in the Town of Warsaw on Thursday afternoon, May 12th.

At 2:56p.m, Warsaw, Silver Springs, Perry Center, Perry, Wyoming, Gainesville, North Java and Varysburg fire departments responded to a very remote, hilly area to extinguish the smokey fire after sparks from an electric transmission line shorted out on a wood pole.

According to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Management, the remote, hilly terrain hampered firefighting efforts as off-road units were called in to assist in getting access to the area.

NYSEG and Wyoming County Emergency Services also assisted on scene.
