GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Stafford man accused of attempting to fight with law enforcement

David C. Stephens, 56, of Stafford, NY, is charged with criminal contempt 2nd, obstructing governmental administration 2nd degree and harassment 2nd degree, after Stephens allegedly violated an order of protection by harassing the protected party. When deputies arrived in scene, Stephens attempted to fight with them.

Stephens was arraigned in Stafford Town Court by Judge Mattice and was released on his own recognizance. He will return to court on June 7, 2022, at 10:00a.m.

Jamian J. Edwards, aka “Jay”, 38, of Rochester, NY, is charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance 3rd and criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, both class B felonies, after a six-month investigation into the possession and sale of crack cocaine in and around the City of Batavia.

Edwards was taken into custody on May 23, 2022 while checking in with Monroe County Probation. He was turned over to Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies on a sealed indictment warrant.

Edwards allegedly sold a quantity of crack cocaine to an agent of the Genesee County Drug Task Force while in Batavia. He was arraigned in Genesee County Court and released under supervision.

Angela N. Bennett, 24, and Shamya I. Brown, 22, both of Rochester, NY, are each charged with grand larceny 4th degree after a larceny in progress was reported at Dick’s Sporting Goods at 4180 Veteran’s Memorial Drive on May 23, 2022, at 1:10p.m.

As deputies were responding, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle on River street in the City of Batavia. Deputies say Bennett and Brown allegedly stole $1,726.28 worth of merchandise from Dicks Sporting Goods.

Both were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Batavia Town Court on June 16, 2022, at 1:00p.m.

The case was investigated by Investigator Erik Andre and Deputy Trevor Sherwood.
