A 4th anniversary at Eli Fish and a 90th anniversary at Oliver’s Candies this year, has brought together two local loved businesses in Genesee County.
After a bit of research and development, and some samples offered at both businesses, the combination of beer and peanut brittle has created a new line at Olivers.
“Everyone loved it, and everyone was asking for it,” says Doug Pastecki, Operations Manager at Oliver’s Candies.
“We talked about doing this seven years ago, but we did not have Eli Fish here.”
Each batch of beer brittle contains 1 gallon of Bad Bad Leroy Brown brown ale, created by Eli Fish Head Brewer Adam Burnett.
“Doug came to me about collaborating, they wanted a unique product and taking part in such a big anniversary for them is special for me and for Eli Fish since we’re the new kids, it’s nice to be taken into the old guard a bit,” says Burnett.
Bad Bad Leroy Brown beer is made every year at Eli Fish to celebrate their anniversary.
“It’s an imperial brown and is 11% and has a lot of residual sugar and a lot of dark caramel malts that add sweetness and with malted flavors candy is a great combo. We thought this beer would be the most pronounced in the candy and it sure was.”
Pastecki says that in the boiling down process the alcohol is removed from the product. He says to make one batch takes about 45 minutes and creates 50lbs of brittle, which will be packaged in 8oz containers and will create a total of 188 containers.
Beer brittle will be available in another week at both Oliver’s Candies and at Eli Fish.
