PERRY POLICE REPORT/Attica man jailed after allegedly breaking into a residence with an ax

PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of an Attica man following an incident in the Village of Perry.
On June 13, 2022, at approximately 10:15a.m., the Perry Police Department responded to a 911 call for a male breaking into a residence with an ax.

Upon arriving on scene, officers discovered that 41-year-old James Bumbarger had allegedly forced the main entry door of the residence and opened it to unlawfully retrieve personal property. Luckily, the resident (who was known by the suspect) was not home at the time of the incident.

Upon confirming that Bumbarger had no permission to be at the residence, Officer David Spink and Officer Matt Masci placed him under arrest, charging him with a felony, criminal mischief in the 3rd degree/damaged property exceeding $250.00.

Bumbarger was arraigned in Perry Village Court in front of the Honorable Tammy Kelsey. Judge Kelsey committed Bumbarger to the Wyoming County Jail without bail because he was previously convicted of two prior felonies.

Bumbarger’s next court appearance is August 2, 2022 in Perry Village Court in front of Judge Kelsey. Also assisting on scene was Trooper Helmer of the New York State Police
