The Attica Lions Club had a record-breaking attendance at their 11th Annual German Fest at Memorial Park on Exchange street on Saturday with over 800 in attendance. Lion Nate Eck says, 14 kegs of beer were consumed, 414 Bratwurst were sold along with 120lbs of German potato salad and 20 gallons of sauerkraut.

Eck credits today’s perfect weather and good promotion as the reason for the increase in attendance. Funds raised at today’s event go right back into the community. The Attica Lions Club donates to many different organizations including the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia. The Attica Lions along with the Varysburg Lions Club also collected about 1500 pairs of used glasses through donation boxes in the area and will distribute them around the world.

“If someone comes to us with a good cause we will fund it, as long as it benefits the community,” says Eck.

Carl says they have not shipped used eyeglasses for distribution in several years due to the pandemic. This year’s shipment has about 1500 pairs of used eyeglasses.
