  1. Although the Volunteers for Animals make very good points, they could also do better by micro chipping every animal that is adopted out like every other shelter. This would enable them to track a cat to the person that adopted should it be left behind or put out t o fend for itself.

    • Shari, It is a wonderful idea to chip cats upon their adoption. However, I have had two cats chipped and the total was on the expensive side. I think the only way for this idea to be feasible is for the shelter to raise the cost of the adoption fees. What the shelter charges I don’t believe is unreasonable. If the fees needs to be raised for a microchipping program that most likely would be reasonable. My fear is people will just look for free kittens. Unfortunately people don’t realize what they are getting for the fee they pay – spayed or neutered, shots and perhaps a microchip. Not to mention people with nefarious purposes don’t want to pay for animals. Which is why I truly wish people would stop giving cats and pets in general away for free. Perhaps an arrangement could be made with local vets for a discounted rate on chips. Volunteers for Animals is a great organization and they do great work but I agree. They need to figure out away to microchip adopted animals.
