On September 10, 2022, at approximately 10:43p.m., the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division received a 911 call reporting that a male had been assaulted at a residence in the Village of Silver Springs.
Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded and located the victim, who had sustained serious physical injuries as a result of the assault. Witnesses on scene identified the perpetrator as Eric Cushman, 52, of Silver Springs, NY, and advised that he had left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Deputies were also advised that Cushman had violated a stay-away order of protection, as the protected party was living at the residence in which the assault had occurred.
Silver Springs Ambulance was dispatched and quickly arrived on location to tend to the victim, who was transported to the Wyoming County Community Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Additional responding deputies began patrolling the area, as a description of Cushman was provided. Witnesses told police that he left on foot. Deputies located Cushman walking nearby through a neighboring property and he was taken into custody without incident.
Cushman is charged with assault 2nd degree, a class D felony, burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony, criminal mischief 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor and criminal contempt 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Cushman was transported to the Village of Warsaw Court for arraignment and remanded to the Wyoming County Jail without bail. At the time of the arrest, Cushman was being supervised by New York State Parole for a violent assault that occurred in Wyoming County in 2015.
The investigation is ongoing, under the supervision of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. The Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office is also actively assisting with the investigation.
