Section V/High School Football/LeRoy battles back in 4th quarter to take down Attica in overtime

The LeRoy Knights are 2-0 in their young season after battling the Attica Blue Devils (2-1) in three overtimes to come out on top 27-20 on Friday night.

Both teams played their ground game in the first quarter and the score stayed tied 0-0, until Attica struck first in the 2nd quarter with Levi Pearl running 35 yards for a touchdown to make the score 6-0. In the 3rd, Attica tacked on a second score with Landyne Thomas making his way to the endzone on a short run to make the score 12-0. Attica went for two and made the score 14-0 going into the 4th quarter.

Almost midway through the 4th quarter, LeRoy was able take possession of the ball after a deep kick off that Attica was unable to keep a hold of. The Knights were able to get on the board after a long pass play which led to the Knights first touchdown on a run by Drew Strollo, who recovered his own fumble to make the score 6-14.

Knights backup quarterback Adrian Stephens, was just getting warmed up when he scampered into the endzone to tie the score with about 3 minutes remaining in the game, making the score 14-14 at the end of the 4th quarter.

In the first overtime session, from the 20-yard line, Attica’s Samuel Strzelec found his way through the Knights defense to make the score 20-14. LeRoy responded with Drew Strollo running to the corner for the game tying touchdown to make the score 20-20.

In the third overtime, LeRoy struck first, with backup quarterback Adrian Stephens pushing his way in to the endzone to put LeRoy on top for good. In response, Attica attempted a long pass play, but LeRoy defenders Xavien Walker and Jackson Fix broke up the play, giving the Knights their second win of the season.

Next week the Knights will take on OAE in Oakfield and Attica will play Bishop Timon in Attica on Saturday.
