The pavilion in the parking lot at the Town of Batavia Fire Hall on Lewiston road was in need of a new roof and painting. A core group of 7 volunteer members of Habitat for Humanity along with three members from the RIT College student volunteers, donated their time and skills to get the job done on Saturday morning.
According to Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Jaylene Smith-Kilner, The Town of Batavia Fire Department has allowed Habitat for Humanity to hold their barbecue fundraisers at the pavilion in the parking lot for the past three years.
“After a discussion with Gary Diegelman with the Town of Batavia Fire Department, he mentioned to me about the pavilion needing some work,” said Smith-Kilner.
“It’s a community service project we had time to do,” says Habitat for Humanity Construction Manager, PJ Riner.
“Just like they help us out, we help them out”
The core group of volunteers and the RIT student volunteers started at 9:30a.m. and planned to finish up the job around 2:00p.m.
