GENESEE COUNTY/Sheriff’s Office investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian accident

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian accident that occurred in the area of 10342 West Bethany road in the town of Alexander at 4:06p.m., October 19, 2022.

Upon arrival, patrols located an elderly female laying in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by a 2013 blue Ford F150 pickup truck, owned and operated by Patrick G. McCormack, 55, of Darien, NY. The elderly female was identified as Ruth M. McVay, 89, of Alexander, NY.

McVay appeared to have been crossing the roadway on foot, when McCormack, traveling south on West Bethany road, had crested over the hill in his pickup truck. McCormack attempted to avoid McVay, but the driver’s side mirror struck McVay, causing her to sustain serious injuries.

McCormack immediately pulled his pickup truck to the shoulder of the road and called 911.

McVay was transported to Strong Hospital via Mercy ambulance where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office along with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team are conducting a full investigation of the accident. Assisting at the scene, the Alexander Fire Department and Mercy EMS.
