GENESEE COUNTY/County provides an update on the construction of the new County Jail on West Main street road

The 100,000 square foot County Jail has184 beds and will house men and women and is located on 20 acres. According to planners, it will be completed in Spring of 2024. The old jail, located at 14 West Main street in the City of Batavia, was built in 1902 and was expanded in 1984-85 and does not hold women. It is a medium security level County Jail and has a capacity of 87 inmates.
Total cost for the new jail project is $57.27 million and the process has taken over 5 years. The new jail was mandated by New York State.

Back up 9-1-1 Dispatching Area- the current back up is located in a small area in the former Sheriff’s Office, now Genesee Justice on West Main street in front of the current jail.
There are 19 miles of electronic conduit under the surface.
Seven contractors are currently working on the project.
