WYOMING COUNTY/An explosive noise heard by a nearby neighbor alerts company to a repair shop fire

An explosive noise coming from a repair shop complex at Reisdorf Brothers at 1830 Perry road in the town of Sheldon on November 3, 2022, alerted a nearby resident who saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure, the resident called 9-1-1 to report the fire.

The North Java fire department and Chief along with an employee, applied multiple fire extinguishers on the fire which helped slow the spread until fire trucks arrived on scene.

Firefighters battled the spread of the fire to the contents of the shop and then into a heavily corrugated steel walls and ceilings. This slowed firefighting efforts down as multiple pieces of steel had to be cut and removed to access hot spots.

Estimated loss was at $300,000.

No one was injured and fire crews from North Java, Strykersville, Sheldon and Varysburg remained on scene for about 6 hours. Also assisting at the scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department

The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services says the cause was an electrical short on a fork truck parked inside the repair shop.
