GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Three Rochester men charged after vehicle pursuit; suspect vehicle breaks down on thruway

On October 25, 2022 at about 7:33p.m., Deputy Ortiz Speed attempted to perform a lawful vehicle stop on a grey 2018 Ford Focus in the area of the Target store on Veteran’s Memorial Drive. The vehicle failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The suspect vehicle entered the NYS Thruway at Batavia, heading east. At milepost 388.5, the suspect vehicle had broken down and the three suspects inside the vehicle were detained.

The driver of the vehicle, Jayson O. Wellman, 50, of Rochester, NY, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property greater than $3,000, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree, speeding in a zone, insufficient turn signal, moving from a lane unsafely, failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign and unlicensed operator. Wellman was arraigned in Stafford Town Court and held on bail at the Genesee County Jail.

A passenger, Timothy W. Szurgot, 38, of Rochester, NY, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of stolen property greater than $3,000, He was arraigned in Stafford Town Court and remanded to the Genesee County Jail.

A rear seat passenger, Oscar Caraballo, 41, of Rochester, NY, was issued an appearance ticket for for criminal possession of a controlled substance and released to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant issued out of their office.

Eric P. Doleman, 52, and Curtis Williams, 56, both of Batavia, NY, are each charged with promoting prison contraband 2nd degree and conspiracy 6th degree, after allegedly conspiring to and then acting upon their plan to have Williams allegedly smuggle a $20 bill of US currency and pass it to Doleman during a visitation at the Genesee County Jail on October 29, 2022 at 2:07p.m.

Doleman and Williams were each issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Batavia City Court on November 8, 2022, at 1:00p.m.

Nolan R. Powless, 25, of Medina, NY, was arrested on a warrant out of the town of Alabama Court for a petit larceny that occurred on September 26, 2022 on Ledge road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation.

Powless was arraigned in Alabama Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He will return to court on November 15, 2022.

Matthew S. Williams, 34, of Batavia, NY, is charged with criminal contempt 2nd degree after allegedly violating a court order in the town of Elba on October 21, 2022.

Williams allegedly had contacted a protected party via phone.

He was arraigned in Oakfield Town Court and committed to the Genesee County Jail.

Williams was scheduled to re-appeared in Elba Town Court on October 27, 222 at 5:00p.m.
