Due to increased costs, the City Centre entrance project is being streamlined and alternate designs are being discussed as well as alternate grant funding.
“Based on the artist renderings and engineering reports that the City has received from our architects, the proposed construction estimate was $2.6 million, more than double our $1million DRI award. We have asked the architects to go back and prepare for the City a streamlined version of the project with alternative designs to reach our budgeted goal. The City is also exploring alternative grant funding to ensure we maintain the original design presented by our architects with the goal of having the project out to bid by the end of 2023,” says Assistant City Manager Erik Fix.
The original plan was to have the entryways completed in 2023.
Fix says remodeling the entryways to the City Centre is a critical component of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
“In the last three months, we have seen an uptick in inquiries about City Centre properties and increased activities in the City Centre with the Saturday morning market, and fundraising events.”
As for now, the City is waiting for a new quote on the new proposed entryway plans.
“If we can make the budget work then we will move forward with those plans. We are still waiting on a new quote from the architects.”
The City Centre, formerly the mall, was built as part of Urban Renewal in the 1970’s and the silos were part of the original entrances which are about 46 years old.
