GENESEE COUNTY/LeRoy/Sweet Betty’s is looking forward to opening day on Wednesday May 3rd

Steven Kelso and Kristen Beardsley can’t wait to open Sweet Betty’s for the season on Wednesday morning at 11:00a.m.

“We’re excited,” says Kristen.

“It will be different and a challenge, we’ve never actually run a business of this sort before. We’ve been putting in a lot of hard work into figuring things out. We’re piggy backing off what Gabby and Scott had done here previously. They have been helping us a lot. Gabby was here helping the other day with the Point-of-Sale system, some of that is confusing to us since we have not used one before.”

The system sends all orders to the kitchen, no orders are taken using paper.

Kristen has had previous experience as a waitress before she started working as a teacher’s aide in the Pre-K room at Pavilion Schools. Steven previously worked at Olacy’s in Batavia under their previous owner.

“I’m excited, I have been waiting impatiently for a month. I’m ready to do something on my own. I’ve been cooking my whole life,” says Steven.

The menu is mostly the same as before.

“We didn’t want to change a lot of stuff, we did get rid of the pizzas and added some items to the menu. It’s the same atmosphere inside.”

Kristen says there are not a lot of restaurants in LeRoy where you can come in and sit down.

“Now is a good time to start up with spring coming, sports, parents running short on time to make dinner and have dinner. This is a good quick place for them to be able to sit down, kids can get ice cream after their games.”

The only thing not available on opening day will be alcoholic beverages.

“We wanted to keep things the same. We kind of held off opening as we are waiting for our tavern license, however that is taking longer than anticipated. We want to open as the way it closed.”

Sweet Betty’s closed in December of 2022 after experiencing staffing shortages. Kristen says some of the original staff will be back so people will see some familiar faces. They expect to have 14 employees to start out.

“I hope people look forward to it. We still have ice cream and different beverages. We have some big shoes to fill around here. It was a pretty popular place,” says Kristen.
