The second annual Flag Commemoration Ceremony for deceased members of the Batavia Police Department was held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
The ceremony was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery next to the gravesite of Officer Andrew McCully, who served in the department for 45 years, including 10 years as Chief and as Captain and Patrolman right up until his death in 1931.
Flags were installed in metal flag holders at 52 graves at various cemeteries across Genesee County, and plaques were also affixed to deceased officers interred in the Monsignor Schwartz Mausoleum.
The flags and metal flag holders were produced and donated by H.E. Turner & Co., Inc. Funeral Home in the City of Batavia.
