WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/June 21, 2023

On June 17, 2023, at approximately 12:21 A.M. a Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was patrolling
Route 20A in the Town of Sheldon when they observed a vehicle traveling south on Route
77 fail to stop at the stop sign, and turn onto Route 20A, pulling out in front of another vehicle.

After speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Evan Swiatek, 22, of Williamsville, NY, the deputy recognized signs of impairment from alcohol. Swiatek was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing which he performed poorly on. Swiatek was then transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where he submitted to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content (BAC). Swiatek’s BAC was found to be .08%.
Swiatek was arrested and charged with DWI and driving with a BAC of .08% or higher
along with numerous other Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions. Swiatek was released on appearance
tickets and is to appear in Sheldon Town Court on June 26, 2023

Abubaker H. Osman,45, of Buffalo, NY, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 19 in the
Town of Middlebury on June 16, 2023. Osman was stopped by deputies for traveling 52mph in a marked 25mph school zone and found to have 2 active suspensions in New York State.

Osman is charged with speeding in a school zone and aggravated unlicensed operation in the
3rd Degree. Osman was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Middlebury
Court at a later date.

Wasim A. Shami, 25, of Greenville, NC, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 63 in
the Town of Covington on June 11, 2023. Shami was stopped by deputies for traveling 70mph in a 55mph zone and found to have 6 active suspensions in New York State.

Shami is charged with speeding, unlicensed operation, and aggravated unlicensed operation
in the 3rd Degree. Shami was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of
Covington Court at a later date.
