NYS Police/Rochester pair accused of stealing a vehicle and items from a retail store, lead police on a pursuit

Two Rochester men are accused of stealing a vehicle in the Town of Alabama and then allegedly taking items from a building in the Town of Batavia. The pair then led police on a lengthy pursuit that ended in the City of Batavia in a field at the end of North Street, with both subjects being taken into custody.

Law enforcement units from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Batavia Police Department assisted in the incident.

Devante M. Wells, 27, and Jalen I. Brown, both of Rochester, NY, are each charged with grand larceny 3rd degree, after allegedly taking items from a building in the Town of Batavia at 12:37p.m. on June 24, 2023.

Wells is additionally charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, a class D felony.

Brown is additionally charged with grand larceny 4th degree/auto over $100, a class E felony, criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree/vehicle, a class E felony and operating a vehicle impaired by drugs 1st degree, a misdemeanor.

Both subjects were initially held. Unknown status at this time.
