On July 27, 2023, at about 8:40am, an Attica Police Officer was dispatched to a vehicle driving erratically that was entering the Village of Attica. The vehicle reportedly pulled in front of another car and then struck a curb/sidewalk in the Village.
The Attica Police Department located the vehicle on Exchange Street entering the township and observed the vehicle crossing both the white fog and yellow center lines. The vehicle was stopped near the Attica Correctional Facility.
Upon speaking with the driver, Sanjoy K. Banik, 50, of Richmond, Texas, the Attica Police Officer observed numerous signs and indicators of impaired and requested a Sheriff’s Deputy to the scene due to the location being in the town.
Upon arrival of the Sheriff’s Office, Banik was placed through a series of field sobriety tests in
which he performed poorly and was placed under arrest for driving while ability impaired by
drugs. Banik was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where he underwent a
drug influence evaluation by a Sheriff’s Office Drug Recognition Expert. During the evaluation, it was determined that Banik was allegedly impaired by multiple categories of drugs and unable to operate a vehicle safely.
Banik did supply a blood sample that will be sent for testing.
Banik is charged with driving across hazard markings, failure to keep right, DWAI-Drugs, and
DWAI Drugs Combination. He was issued appearance tickets to appear in the Town if Attica Court on July
10th, 2023.
Also assisting at the scene were DMR Towing and the New York State Department of
Corrections.

Shamirra L. Garrett, 27, of Rochester, NY, was arrested for driving with a suspended license,
after a complaint of a vehicle that had gone into the ditch on Silver Lake Road in the
Town of Covington on June 27, 2023.
Garrett was found to have gone off the roadway on Silver Lake Road an into a ditch. Garrett currently has 6 active suspensions on her driver’s license.
Garrett is charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd degree and released with an appearance ticket, returnable to the Town of Covington Court on July 10th, 2023.

Anthony F. Pagano II, 38, of Dansville, NY, was charged following a traffic stop on Route 20A in
the Town of Perry on June 28, 2023.
Pagano was stopped for operating a vehicle on an expired inspection and found to have one
active suspension on his license.
Pagano was issued appearance tickets for uninspected motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation in the 3rd degree returnable to the Town of Perry Court on July 12, 2023.
