The Genesee Community College Foundation helped raise funds for the Genesee Community College Student Scholarship Program at Stafford Country Club on Monday, with the 9th Annual Cougar Classic.

“Many of our students at GCC rely on scholarships, whether it be for tuition, books, childcare, or supplies that they need, this is critical funding that we raise each year in order to support our students who go to GCC,” says Patty Hume, Develpment and Alumni Coordinator for GCC.

The Cougar Classic gathered about 128 golfers, and this year’s Honorary Chair was Todd Bender of the Igniter Group. The lead sponsor is Family First Credit Union. The fundraising event is one of the Foundation’s largest fundraisers of the year.

Hume says they are hoping to raise $25,000 or more.

“Any student that attends GCC is eligible, even part time students.”

Scholarships range from $100-$2,000.

This past year there were over 150 students who used the scholarship funds.

“Scholarship funding was well over $100,000. Many students would not be able to attend college if it wasn’t for these scholarships. Even students who have an unmet financial need in the middle of the semester, like a car breaks down or something like that, we have emergency funding available.”

The Foundation’s next big fundraising effort will be Encore, which has been held for about 30 years. This year it is planned for Friday December 15, 2023.
