GENESEE COUNTY/Police pursuit that started in Byron leads to standoff at apartment in Batavia

A police pursuit that started in the Byron area with the NYS Police, ended with a standoff at a City of Batavia apartment complex on Sunday afternoon. According to Sgt. Arick Perkins with the City of Batavia Police Department, the car was spiked as it entered the City on Bank Street.

The driver continued on and proceeded to drive into the driveway of 335 Bank Street and entered an apartment at Northside Meadows a little before 4:00p.m. Perkins says the driver barricaded the door so police could not enter. A little before 6:00p.m., police made entry to the apartment forcing the door open. The driver was taken into custody without incident and arrested.

The car was towed from the scene and is in the possession of State Police. City of Batavia Police are investigating how entry was made into the unoccupied apartment. The NYS Police are handling the pursuit portion of the incident.
