On August 13, 2023, at 1:11pm, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of
a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersections of State Route 19 and State Route 39 in the
Town of Pike.
Following investigation by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team, the
following determinations have been made. A 2017 Honda CRV was being operated by Gretchen
E. Pittman, age 75, of Warsaw, NY, when Pittman failed to slow for the stop sign at the
intersection. Pittman’s vehicle entered the intersection where it struck the driver side of a 2012
Chevrolet Traverse, being operated eastbound on State Route 39 by Ryan M. Haudricourt, age
29, of Freedom, NY. The collision caused both vehicles to exit the roadway, severing a utility
pole and leaving the intersection closed for over three [3] hours.
Gretchen Pittman suffered severe life-threatening injuries. Pittman was flown by helicopter to
Erie County Medical Center [ECMC], where she later died from her injuries.
Ryan Haudricourt, along with two passengers in his vehicle, all suffered severe injuries. All
three occupants were flown by helicopter to separate hospitals, ECMC, Oishei Children’s
Hospital in Buffalo, NY, and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Ryan Haudricourt
remains in critical condition at the ECMC Trauma ICU. Both of Haudricourt’s passengers are
now listed in stable condition.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team continues to investigate details
of this collision. Multiple Police, Fire and EMS agencies were coordinated by the Wyoming
County 911 Center throughout this incident. Agencies involved included:

New York State Police, Wyoming County Emergency Management, Pike Fire Department/EMS,
Gainesville Fire Department/EMS, Castile Fire Department/EMS, Bliss Fire Department/EMS,

RSC Automotive from Castile, NY, and Barber’s Towing from Bliss, NY.
