BATAVIA/Windy Brew breathes new life into the Harvester with the opening of their new brewery

Owner Michelle Snyder with Jake Skowron, Tap Room Manager, at Windy Brew’s new location at 56 Harvester Avenue on opening day Thursday. Currently their Batavia location offers 16 craft brews on tap that are all Windy Brews, local spirits, local wines and for food, a pulled pork sandwich and a few other appetizers until their kitchen opens in a few weeks. They will then also offer different types of pizza.

“So, we started with a vision of introducing people to craft beer and we are in a very rural area, and we’ve done that, we’ve kind of outgrown our space there and we were looking for something to expand our business,” says Snyder.

The family run business started 6.5 years ago at their Strykersville location at 733 Rt. 20A as a farm brewery with a custom brew license that allowed customers to come in and brew their own beer and get a home brewing experience until COVID hit. Snyder says she and her husband Bill would assist 6-8 groups a week in making their own brews, with the ability to take home about 60 bottles of their creation. After the pandemic, Snyder says things changed and they were only assisting 6-8 groups a month with home brews, that’s when the couple decided to look into the Batavia option after being approached by Tammy Hathaway of the Batavia Development Corporation. “I had a vision for a rustic industrial look, and I feel like we got that here.”

It was a triple couple date night for Gina and Mike Corbelli(front), Kristin and Ed Schmidt(middle) and Kathy and Todd Bender of Batavia. The group says they have been sharing a date night together on tandem bikes for 5 years now.

“We just like to support local businesses, we go out to dinner, have a drink, dessert, or go to Olivers for ice cream. This is their first night here, so we want to support the local new brewery, ” says Gina Corbelli.

The group went to Romans for dinner before arriving on their bikes to check out Windy Brew.
