Did you know the world’s largest collector of Beavis and Butt-Head memorabilia lives in WNY?

Sean Beard lives in Silver Springs, NY, and since 1994 he has accumulated the world’s largest collection of Beavis and Butt-Head memorabilia.

“I’ve gotten recognized by Good Morning Sacramento as well as the creator of the show, Mike Judge,” says Beard.

Beard’s Instagram account was noticed by Judge in 2017. He currently has 6,900 Beavis and Butt-Head items in two average sized rooms that are about 15×15, along with lot of totes, and closet space filled with overflow and unframed art.

“I started collecting the art used to animate the original series in the 90’s and I was instantly obsessed with the characters when the series aired in 1993. I was six years old, and the show was seen as pretty taboo especially for a child to be watching, but my mom would watch it with me, and her laughing hysterically at the episodes are easily my favorite childhood memories. She’d be in tears. I already loved the show, but us sharing that made it that much more special. I think as time went on, the characters not only never grew old to me, but they became a real sentimental part of my life.”

Beard says a lot of the stuff he has had since childhood when the series was still on air, and items could be found just about everywhere at that time, but over the years eBay has been the biggest go to as well as foreign auction sites to obtain all of the memorabilia released exclusively in other countries.

“Believe it or not, Beavis and Butt-Head has a big following in Japan.”

Most of the real cool stuff he received directly from people who worked on the show.

“J. J. Sedelmaier, original animation studio for the series, gifted me the original animation disc that the first 30 episodes were animated on as well as some Saturday Night Live TV Fun House shorts. Tony Berg of Geffen Records, gifted me the original Mike Judge hand painted art used for the cover of the 1993 album, ‘The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience’.”

Beard really didn’t go public about his collection until 2017 when he made his Instagram account.

“It’s kind of crazy to think at this point, but since then I’ve talked to Mike Judge, who followed my account soon after making it, have gotten to interview J.J. Sedelmaier, the original animation studio for the series, Yvette Kaplan, original supervising director, and Kristofor Brown, original head writer, for a brief YouTube show I created called ‘Late Night Morning Wood’.”

Head writer Kristofor Brown was the one who suggested that Beard should do a podcast.

“The interview with him is over 3 hours long I believe, and somehow doesn’t lose steam. He’s a great guy. We actually met up a few months ago for a beer in Wisconsin, and he’s truly one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.”

Beard has had many people visit him in Silver Springs over the years.

“A dude from Taiwan was visiting NYC in 2018 and reached out to visit assuming I was close by, and actually made the trip out to Silver Springs from NYC to see it. That was pretty neat.”

Beard says he is too private of a person to make it open to the public but is okay with giving a tour to someone who is really into the show.

“It’s been beyond an honor to get recognized by so many people who had a hand in creating my favorite thing in the world.”
