The ARC GLOW (Genesee/Livingston, Orleans Wyoming) held their Annual Friends and Family 5K and Fun Run on Saturday morning in Elba.

111 runners and a large group of walkers participated in this year’s Run/walk that raises funds for the Mary Anne Graney Memorial Scholarship and ARC Disabilities Services.

The Mary Anne Graney Memorial Scholarship is presented to area high school seniors planning to further their studies in human services, special education or related fields. It is in honor of Mary Anne Graney, a special education teacher, who died in 2004. The scholarships will be presented to recipients at their upcoming spring school scholarship programs.

ARCGLOW CEO Martin Miskell says the Friends & Family 5K is a different kind of fundraiser.

“Fundraisers are also public relations, so an awareness. Lots of people don’t realize that we are a not-for-profit 501C3. It’s more important than ever that a lot of people realize that a lot of services are entitlements and are slowly being widdled away, so we are really trying to engage people in the art of advocacy. Fundraising is more than dollars, its public awareness and involvement. You gotta work for it you can’t expect it,” says Miskell.

Men’s First Place finisher Brandon Rebert (18:09) with Kim Mills, the Women’s First Place finisher (20:27)- a new women’s course record.
