ALBION — After five years away, the Ham Loaf Dinner will be returning.
A fundraiser to support Meals on Wheels in Orleans County will be held 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12th.
Ham loaf became a staple years ago when Theresa Schmackpfeffer, Nutri-Site manager for Arc GLOW, worked with a woman who cooked at a firehall for retired firemen. The woman made ham loaf, and
Schmackpfeffer received the recipe from the woman. Then when Schmackpfeffer cooked for Nutri-Fair, she had conversations with a past director at Nutri Fair about the ham loaf. The director wanted to try the ham loaf recipe and it was a huge hit. Since then the recipe over the years has been tweaked here and there, but still uses mostly the same ingredients even today.
Meals on Wheels serves over 38,000 meals a year in Orleans County. The program provides a nutritious
meal, a quick safety check and much-needed human connection to homebound seniors. This also allows
our local senior citizens to remain living in their own homes.
Arc GLOW’s partnership with Orleans County Office for the Aging began in 2009 when they were asked
to oversee the Meals on Wheels/Nutrifare program.
The Ham Loaf Dinner will be dine-in or take-out, and tickets can be bought at the door for $12 for adults
and $6 for kids under 5. Ham Loaf, au gratin potatoes, vegetables and a dessert will be included in the
meal.
It will be held at 16 E. Academy St. in Albion until sold out.
