BATAVIA/Police seeking public’s assistance

Press release

The Batavia Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver of a gray Ford Edge.

On 10/08/2023 at approximately 12:25 AM, a Batavia Police Officer observed the vehicle at the intersection of Ellicott St. and Liberty St. The vehicle was facing south in the northbound lane. Our officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it passed the red light and sped away. A short pursuit was initiated and ended at approximately 12:27 AM in the area of 5 Summit St.

The black male suspect (about 30 years old and wearing a baseball hat with a red/brown plaid flannel shirt) exited the vehicle and began running north through backyards. The suspect was observed crossing Washington Ave. near house number 221. A perimeter was set up on Washington Ave. / Summit Street / North St. / Bank St. and the K-9 unit was called in. The K-9 track ended at approximately 2:18 AM and was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

The vehicle is valid, and no one has reported it stolen.

Anyone with information or in the area of the perimeter is asked to check their cameras and call the Batavia Police Department at 585-345-6350 or the confidential tip line at 585-345-6370. Tips can also be submitted by clicking the “submit a tip” button at the bottom of this post on bataviapolice.org.
