Perry, NY – Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of Jessie Belford, of Perry, NY.
On January 20, 2024, The Perry Police Department was dispatched to a domestic dispute about 6:00p.m. When Officers arrived on scene, they met with the female victim who was locked out of their apartment. It’s alleged that the female victim had been strangled and property was damaged inside the residence.
While Officers were trying to make contact with the male suspect at the front door, 30-year-old Jessie Belford had fled the residence by jumping out a second story balcony. Officers were able to track footprints and quickly catch up to Belford where he then allegedly resisted arrest.
During the arrest, Belford allegedly headbutted an officer, attempting to cause injury. Belford was placed under arrest and charged with felony strangulation in the 2nd degree and attempted assault in the second degree. Along with the felony charges, Belford was also charged with criminal mischief in the 4th degree and resisting arrest, both misdemeanor offenses.
The Wyoming County District Attorney’s office was contacted and recommended bail be set at $30,000 cash, $60,000 bond, and $120,000 partially secure. Belford was arraigned in Perry Village Court in front of Honorable Joshua Wolcott. Honorable Wolcott committed Belford to the Wyoming County Jail in Lieu of $15,000 cash, $30,000 bond, or $60,000 partially secured. Belford has a return court date of February 13, 2024.
